In Stronghold Crusader, you'll conquer campaigns and skirmishes to win the war, similar to the Crusader Kings games. The game is included in Stronghold Crusader HD, which adds more content and allows you to play Stronghold: Crusader Extreme, the updated version of Crusader.

Stronghold Crusader is part of the Stronghold series, which began with the original Stronghold game in 2001. Set in the Middle Ages in England, the game requires you to manage both the military and economic aspects of your kingdom while facing challenges like fires, invasions, and conquering other lands. The series has spawned numerous sequels and HD versions.

The first sequel, Stronghold Crusader, is set in the Middle East during the Crusades and introduces enhanced real-time strategy elements. It offers four separate but linear campaigns and allows you to choose between playing as a European king or an Arabic lord. Stronghold 2, the confusingly titled second game, features 3D graphics and introduces new gameplay mechanics like crime and punishment.

Stronghold Legends, the fourth game in the series, adds the unique mechanic of controlling both human and mythical armies. Stronghold: Crusader Extreme, essentially an expanded version of Crusader, includes additional content such as new AI opponents, maps, buildings, special Tactical Powers, and an increased unit cap of 10,000 troops.

While Stronghold: Crusader Extreme offers these additions, it doesn't differ significantly from the original Crusader. It still features the same four historical campaigns, around 100 unique skirmish missions, and the option to play as either the Arabs or the Europeans. The game also includes a multiplayer mode. Although it has some interface issues, it remains one of the better titles in the series.

Overall, Stronghold Crusader has helped the franchise grow with its additions and improvements over the first game. Despite minor issues, the game provides an enjoyable gameplay experience, and the other versions of the game offer even more content.
