Ravenfield is an exhilarating action-adventure game that puts players in the shoes of first-person shooters as they navigate through a dynamic battleground sandbox. With a stipulated target in mind, players must use strategy and coordination to gain control of five capture points, making the gameplay chaotic and exciting.

One of the main features of Ravenfield is its single-player mode, where players take on the role of infantry in the blue team. They have access to a wide range of on-ground vehicles, aircraft, helicopters, and other warcraft to aid them in their mission. Tactics, strategy, and basic physical maneuvers are essential to progress through the game, which offers diverse terrains ranging from hills to hard rocks to snow-capped mountains.

The blue team faces off against the red team, who utilize various weapons and vehicles to outsmart the player. Customization options allow players to choose their preferred character and progress through the game. The intuitive gameplay mechanics make it easy to understand, with the primary objective being to start shooting and avoid getting shot. As the challenges become tougher, the immersive experience intensifies.

Ravenfield can be played offline on a PC, providing a multiplayer-like experience despite not being connected to other online players. The game offers five different modes, each with unique goals and gameplay:

  • Skirmish: A simple mode where the goal is to either kill the opposition or have more capture points than them by the end of the game. Support features like planes flying over the battlefield add to the intensity.
  • Point Match: The objective in this mode is to gain all the points or at least have higher points than the opposition by the end. Points can be earned by capturing flags or defeating enemy infantry units.
  • Battle: A more extended version of Point Match, where troops are represented by pools and one pool is removed after every spawn. Players can continue playing until they run out of troops, and each pool must have a captured flag to remain in the game.
  • Special Ops: This mode caters to players who prefer more specialized and high-risk objectives. The goals may include destroying enemy vehicles, capturing specific points, or eliminating a particular enemy officer.
  • Haunted: Armed with sabers, players must fight against skeletons to earn points called Anomalies. Custom maps lead to these Anomalies, and stepping into the designated square eliminates all skeletons, allowing the player's squad to progress.
  • Domination: Combining elements of Point Match and Battalions, this mode assigns flags to capture and gain points. The player wins by earning the maximum points.

Ravenfield's advantages lie in its easy-to-use interface and hands-on gaming experience, making it accessible to players of all skill levels. The game's graphics and environments are not childish, providing a mature and immersive atmosphere. Despite its simplicity, Ravenfield offers a rush of adrenaline and uncomplicated gameplay.

The game is lightweight and easily downloadable on PC, with versions available for Linux and MacOS as well. Players can adjust the number of bots and players in the game to suit their computer's capabilities. Additionally, Ravenfield is free to play.

However, there are some disadvantages to consider. The game has graphics and development issues, with occasional bugs that can disrupt gameplay. The user interface, while functional, lacks the sophistication found in competing games like Battlefield, Zombies, 1000, and Blue. Furthermore, Ravenfield is not a multiplayer game and cannot be played online, unlike alternatives such as PubG, Age of Empires, and Squad.

In conclusion, Ravenfield is a solid choice for those seeking a single-player action experience. With its straightforward gameplay and uncomplicated storyline, it is particularly suitable for beginners. While it may not inspire long-term commitment, Ravenfield offers a few hours of entertainment in the form of a good old war/shooting game.
