Download the file named fat3 to format large disks with FAT32. FAT32 is a free feature introduced by Microsoft in Windows 95 OSR2. It is designed to reduce wasted cluster spaces and is commonly used to support memory cards ranging from 4GB to 32GB in size.

FAT32 is derived from the File Allocation Table (FAT) system and is used to support drives with storage exceeding 2GB. It utilizes smaller clusters compared to FAT16 drives, resulting in more efficient allocation of space. The maximum file size for FAT32 drives is 4GB minus 2 bytes.

The Fat32 BIOS Parameter Block (B.P.B.) on FAT32 drives is larger than a standard B.P.B., and the boot record on FAT32 drives exceeds one sector. The reserved area on FAT32 drives contains values for counting non-allocated clusters and the numbering of the most recently allocated cluster. These values are part of the "BIG FAT BOOT FSINFO" structure.

FAT32 is compatible with SD cards, SDHC cards, and micro SDHC cards. It works on older Windows XP and 7 devices, as well as newer versions like Windows 8.1 and 10. It also functions on Apple devices running Mac OS 8 and 9x onwards.

The Fat32 interface is user-friendly and can be run as a separate program. Updating Fat32 is easy with the "version info" tab. It can be used as a stand-alone program on a PC or operated on any PC with a thumb drive without modifying the system registry.
