Camera is a versatile camera application that allows you to capture photos and record videos directly from your desktop computer. This free multimedia app, offered by Google, is an extension of Google Chrome, making it easy to install and access.

Setting up the Camera app is a breeze. Simply download the app from the Google Chrome extension store and click the Install button. Before installation, you can also check the extension's security. Once installed, you can launch the app directly from your Google Chrome browser.

To use the Camera app, you need to grant Chrome access to your webcam. This applies to both built-in cameras and plugins. If you have previously allowed Chrome to access your camera and microphone, there should be no issues. Otherwise, a pop-up notification will ask for permission. In case you don't see the notification, you can look for a Blocked Microphone icon on your address bar. Click the icon and select the Allow option. Once granted access, you can start snapping pictures or recording videos.

Camera functions similarly to the built-in camera for Windows 11. Upon launching the app, you will be presented with options to take a photo or record a video. Simply click the corresponding icon on the screen to initiate the action. The capture button makes it easy to snap a picture or start recording. However, compared to other standalone camera apps, Camera has limited features and does not offer image touch-up capabilities. To enhance your images, you may need to install a separate photo or video editor.

Despite its simplicity, Camera does offer a few additional features. The Mirror button allows you to flip the screen of your snapped image. You can also apply a grid to your camera, helping you achieve better angles in your photos or recordings. The grid can be set to 3x3, 4x4, or Golden Ratio. Additionally, there is a timer function that allows you to set a countdown of either 3 or 10 seconds before capturing a snapshot.

Considering its limited capabilities, Camera may not be the most feature-rich camera app available. Many desktop computers already have a native camera app that offers similar, if not more, features. However, if you prefer a lightweight and straightforward camera app, Camera can be a suitable choice. It requires fewer resources and is easy to use. Keep in mind that there are other free options available that provide more extensive functionality.
